Willie 'The Ghillie' Laird

Here's the man responsible for my involvement in the salmon fishing world. For those who remember him he was an absolute 'topper' of a man and still greatly missed by many. This 'lucky charm' rod label ensures contact with our 'salmon god' as I am convinced Willie will be one of his closest pals. If I told you how this picture came to be a lucky charm on my Monteith Spey rods you wouldn't believe me !

River Tay Sea Trout

These wonderful fish are plentiful in the Tay at the moment and are the best fighting fish of them all. Prior to the salt water fish farms on the West Coast of Scotland these creatures were over abundant. Sea lice issues have downsized the West coast population these days however I do recall one afternoon in the mid 70's on the River Fyne estuary pool landing 49 of them !!!
