Green Bank Lower Kinnaird

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Here's the green bank pool on Lower Kinnaird in low water from a few weeks ago. In big water salmon that would normally be content lying up in the Ash Trees pool below move up and lie here.
Recently a huge overhanging limb was cut off the scots pine tree on the left hand bank now making this another serious hotspot for fly fishing on the beat.

River Tay Salmon Fishing

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone Big clear water today and the sun is splitting the trees. Many salmon that were holding in various beats of the Tay will have moved on in the recent high water and a fresh batch should be moving in soon to replace them. This shot is of the neck of the Ash Trees pool which is one serious holding pool for salmon. The shadow of the scots pine seen on the far bank pinpoints one of this pools 4 hot spots.

Big Water River Tay

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

The Tay is running big and clear today and as a former beat ghillie I used to like conditions like these as salmon are herded into the very few slack water areas the river has to offer. On a big daunting river like the Tay such condition make salmon easy to find as long as you exercise stealth while sneaking up on them.

The New Pool Lower Kinnaird Beat River Tay

This is the New Pool on Lower Kinnaird which has a brilliant salmon lie on the opposite side of the river where you can see that strip of slack water. Salmon love to sit in here and a stealthy shallow approach and short tactful cast can often produce a fish.
