The Salmon Kelt

A very well mended salmon kelt like this one caught today can sometimes be mistaken for a clean run Spring salmon by the inexperienced. These fish although out of condition have my utmost respect as they have ran the gauntlet and evaded capture from many different predators to successfully reproduce on their spawning grounds. Hats off to these fellows.

Upper Kinnaird Beat River Tay

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Here's the downstream view of the Tay from Logierait Bridge. This is slow and deep Upper Kinnaird beat holding water which is a law unto itself when it comes to salmon fishing tactics. The sheer size and diversity of water in my opinion makes the Kinnaird beats the most versatile on the Tay with the 3 pools on the River Tummel and approx 5 miles of the Tay with a junction pool to stop salmon thrown in it is no wonder why.
