Spey Casting Newtyle Beat River Tay

video

Here's Desmond Anley playing a powerful wee spring salmon in the Cottar Pool late on this morning. The oyster catcher was in on the action too !!! The fish threw the fly after an exciting 10 minute encounter and will now be on it's way upstream having learned of the lurking dangers when swimming through the Newtyle beat !!!!! Well done Des for persevering enough to induce a take on the fly. For more information on my guiding service Click here.

Scott Davie Fish and Chips Dunkeld

video

Now it's normal to ask yer ghillie where the best place is to find a fish however the Dunkeld Fish Bar is an absolute dead cert. for a result !! Scott Davie the new proprietor has done an amazing job at raising the bar (excuse the pun) at serving delicious fish and chips amongst other perfectly cooked fresh products. With returning salmon high on the agenda these days what a great way to end your enjoyable day on the river by swinging into Dunkeld for one of Scott's finest fish suppers. I can personally assure you that you will not be disappointed. Scott's shop is located 80 yards into Atholl Street (which is the main street through Dunkeld) from Dunkeld Bridge on the opposite side of the Tay from the A9. Last year on Newtyle Scott was even delivering fish suppers and other orders to the Newtyle Beat fishing hut which all of our guests just absolutely loved.

Here's the scene at the House Pool of the Dunkeld House Beat at 2.45pm today. Driving heavy rain and a slowly rising river not looking good. Now one of the rods today would certainly disagree as Alan Smith was playing his first Springer of 10lbs minutes after this photograph was taken and then almost immediately hooked and landed his second of 11lbs. Well done Alan.

River Tay Spey Casting

video

Here's the Deans Burn pool on Newtyle today showing a magnificent height for the fly. At this water level wading is easy down this left bank side of the pool and the deep water channel starts (where salmon lie) only a few yards from the riverbank.
