Here's James Gunning with his fly caught salmon this afternoon on Newtyle. The fish took a no 7 park shrimp which shows just how deadly they are as this fish clearly has been in the river for a while & seen plenty other flies. Well done James.

Here's the UK's most famous fishing specialist Matt Hayes who we had the pleasure of on Newtyle today. What a genuinely great guy and no wonder he has such a huge following in the fishing industry. Matt now is heavily involved in Norway having secured some of the finest salmon fishing on the River Gaula. He can arrange exclusive salmon fishing trips for anglers through his website. Click here for more information on Matt's Norwegian salmon fishing.

Here's Newtyle regular Alex McLean with his lovely fish which he hooked in the Alder's Pool at 4 pm today. This salmon took a harled pearly pink tomic lure and as you've seen gave a great account of itself. The river rose to 3 1/5 ft this morning but had settled back to 3ft by 5pm. This means that the next few days should be excellent and there's space for anyone who is looking for some salmon action. Click here to book a rod.

Here's the river today showing a 6 inch rise from yesterday. We were lightly fished today yet still produced a 10 lbs salmon from our 'Ferry Pool' which was caught by my good friend Greg Price of Birnam. Greg who popped down for a 30 minute cast caught his fish on a silver 20 grm toby and returned the fish quickly to the river. Very well done Greg.

And many so called 'experts' state that Newtyle's a high water beat !!! This happens all the time in low water when some pools on the beat fish their socks off. This big hen gave a superb account of itself at the bottom of the beat in our 'Island Pool' today.
This big Tay beastie just wanted to lead the ghillie a merry dance down at the Island Pool. Come and have a go on the beat as there's salmon about and a few rods still available. Click here for more information.
Here's a superbly proportioned big Tay hen fish seconds before it's speedy release back to the Tay today. If you click to enlarge the picture you'll see the fly that hooked 3 and landed both these blogged beauties today. To book a rod on Newtyle Click here.
Here's this big strong Tay hen regaining her freedom at our 'Island Pool' today. It's crucial for the future of the Tay that the vast majority of salmon these days are returned for obvious reasons.
Here's this high spirited 13 lbs hen fish giving it's all today. Again this fish took the famous & deadly 'Jock's Shrimp' fly (which is only my own version of the original General Practitioner).
Here's the second fish being landed at the 'Island Pool' today. Prospects are looking great for the next week or so and there's availability for rods on most days. For more information Click here.
